Guide combs are the plastic attachments that clip onto your clipper blade and control exactly how much hair gets cut. Without one, you're cutting down to bare blade length — a few millimetres at most. Snap one on and you've got anywhere from 1.5mm all the way up to 25mm of control. They're what turn a basic clipper into a tool that can handle everything from a buzz cut to a longer styled crop.
TRANSFORM-U offers coloured guide combs to help U differentiate between lengths at a glance — no squinting at moulded numbers when you're mid-cut.
The infographic breaks down into three rows. Select a guard number below to see what each row is telling U.
A fade is a gradual length transition — shorter at the sides and back, longer toward the top. The same principle applies to all fade styles, whether it's a low fade, mid fade, high fade, or skin fade: multiple combs, stepwise length reduction, blended joins.
Step down through guard sizes as you move lower on the head. Start at your longest length on top and work progressively shorter toward the sides and back.
Take it slow and steady at the blend zones. Use light, feathering strokes rather than pressing hard and cutting fast. Small overlapping passes with a gentle flick at the end of each stroke will give U a smooth, natural finish every time.
